Surrender
Easter Devotional 2023 - Week 3
Around this time of year, I choose a book from one of the gospels to read and study leading up to Easter. This year I'm reading Matthew and this week, I read a verse out of chapter 11 that struck me.
Matthew 11:29 (MSG)
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me- watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
You may have heard a version that says, "for my yoke is easy to bear and the burden I give you is light (NLT)."
I have recently been focused on surrender. What that means. What that looks like. And when I read this verse, it was all the confirmation that I needed to surrender.
I am tired. I am worn out. I can not carry it all on my own. I know I also have people around me to help support me but really, it won't ever be enough until I surrender it all to Jesus. Being with Jesus is easy, the burden is light. He loves you so much that he died for you, don't you think he wants what's best for you too? This is what I heard when I read this. That Jesus wants us to surrender to him. But it's not only when we're tired or weary... but it's also in our every day. In every word we speak, in every thing we do, in what we feel, and what we think.
Surrendering can also be really hard, for those of us who have a tight grip on our lives and want to control every bit of it. I hope you'll hear from this message what I heard from it too. To surrender. And things will change for the better because your Heavenly Father loves you and he wants whats best FOR you.
I am praying for you friend!
All my love,
Christy
